“JCPenney (JCP:NYSE) has filled our rural mailbox with circulars replete with photos of grinning tweens draped in the latest back-to-school fashions… I’ve got bad news for the lot of them: It ain’t working!” — Adam Lass
Blogger’s note: Back-to-school shopping time is almost upon us. But this year, according to Adam Lass, retailers may get a nasty surprise: Parents aren’t buying.
Despite the cries of fashion-conscious eight-year-olds, who swear they’ll “die” if they have to wear the neighbor girl’s old Hannah Montana shirt in public, parents are giong to secondhand stores, trading clothes and backpacks and sending their kids back to school in last year’s styles.
This is really bad news for investors in retail, who depend on back to school spending for their profits. But while you may want to avoid investing in kids’ clothes, Adam has found a great options play in among the crumbling retail stocks. And you can find the article here or read on for more.
