Today's Financial News - Posted May 6, 2008

“To encourage visitors to his Ocean Club and Spa, David James, a developer in Uruguay, is willing to comp seven nights accommodation in Montevideo’s Old Town to anyone who drops by the club.”Sharon Hogan

Foreword by Sharon Hogan, Pathfinder, Ltd.

That’s right, a free week in the most beautiful part of Montevideo… just for checking out what International Living’s Roving Latin America Editor Lee Harrison describes as the best development in Uruguay for North American expats.

I should point out that I’ve met David several times, and think he’s a charming guy… and he’s a friend of Lee Harrison. So, obviously, we’re going to say nice things about him… but David is a true gentlemen.

Please don’t think that once you get to his Ocean Club, you’ll be subjected to high-pressure selling tactics. You won’t. David lets the views and the prices speak for themselves. If you don’t like what you see… no problem.

David will wish you a pleasant stay in Montevideo… on him.

But please note these free weeks are limited… so if you’re interested, you’ll want to act immediately.

Here’s David’s original e-mail:

“If you visit Sugar Loaf Ocean Club & Spa during the month of November, we will take care of your accommodations for 7 nights in a beautiful apartment in the Old Colonial City of Montevideo. The apartment is superbly located near historical sites, the pedestrian walkway Sarandi, restaurants, and the famous Teatro Solis, where currently it is opera season. Advanced reservations are required. To visit Sugar Loaf and to reserve your apartment in Montevideo contact me today”.

As I said, this special offer is first come, first served, and we expect registrations for this trip to fill up fast. So, please contact David James today.

Below is Lee’s full report on Sugar Loaf Ocean Club and Spa. Check out those photos!

Uruguay is the best of Latin America, and now we’ve found the best of Uruguay

Sugar Loaf Ocean Club and Spa

When I first came to Uruguay a few years ago, while living in Ecuador, I had expected to enjoy a Third-World adventure. But what I found was a side of Latin America that I didn’t know existed.

His latest project, Sugar Loaf Ocean Club and Spa, really got my attention, because it is the first of its kind in Uruguay.

You’ll enjoy an unbeatable location in South America’s premier destination

Sugar Loaf Ocean Club and Spa is perfectly situated for those who want to be close to the major attractions of Uruguay, yet prefer the peace, tranquility, and comfort of a private, luxurious community in the countryside.

Less than one hour in the other direction is Uruguay’s capital city of Montevideo. Here you’ll enjoy the old-world feel of a European city, from its magnificently restored opera house and theater to its tiny old cafés where men in berets sip cappuccino and solve the world’s problems. Great restaurants abound, as do small theaters, music halls, and art galleries.

The bright, sandy beach at Piriapolis

Two international airports are close by, with Montevideo’s 45 minutes away, and Punta del Este’s just 15 minutes. Brazil is about three hours distant by car on Uruguay’s well maintained, high-speed highway system. Buenos Aires can be reached via a 25-minute flight, or a relaxing ferry ride.

The best part of the location is Piriápolis itself.

Just a few minutes from the town of Piriápolis, the homes look out from a broad mountain side at the base of Uruguay’s most notable mountain and national park, Pan de Azúcar, or “sugar loaf” in English. Accessed from a quiet, country lane, Sugar Loaf Ocean Club and Spa is within easy distance of the best of what Uruguay has to offer.

The luxury resort of Punta del Este lies just 25 minutes away along the coast, with its famous beaches, casinos, nightlife and shows. The fine dining is second to none, the atmosphere is festive and friendly, and the prices are reasonable.

Tucked into a peaceful cove, Piriápolis reminds me of an old-fashioned seaside town from the 1950s. As you stroll along the ocean-front walk past the grand old Argentino hotel, you’ll enjoy not only the sand and sea, but also the restaurants, cafés and shops in this popular town. For many Uruguayans, Piriápolis is their final destination, and they look no further for their seaside getaway.

As a home-owner in Sugar Loaf, you’ll enjoy the best of all worlds: you’re in a modern luxury community in Piriápolis, a picturesque, small-town beach resort; you’ve got Punta del Este at your doorstep, Montevideo less than an hour away, and an international airport within a 15-minute drive. That’s what I call convenient.

You’ll find nothing like Sugar Loaf Ocean Club and Spa, anywhere else in Uruguay

I’ve traveled extensively throughout Uruguay since 2004, and this project is unique in my experience. In fact, it is the first project designed with the standards and expectations of the North American expat in mind. Let me explain…

The Enchanted Rock Spa at Sugar Loaf caters to every desire of the body, mind, and spirit. You can relax not only with a variety of soothing massages, but with aromatherapy, yoga or meditation as well. The gymnasium, Jacuzzi, stables and tennis courts will provide you with even more ways to enjoy your exclusive environment.

If you need to conduct business, you’ll find the planned modern business center and conference room to be well-equipped and convenient. Wireless Internet service will be available throughout the community, and all utilities are underground to preserve the harmony with nature.

The on-site restaurant, El Alquimista, will offer a changing menu of fresh fish, local Angus beef and a superb selection of Uruguayan and Argentinean wines.

The most spectacular aspect however is the view. Located at one of the country’s high points, the property enjoys a full 180-degree view to the front, and a view of the rolling hills to the back, including the famous Sugar Loaf, which abuts the property.

The Piriapolis marina awaits the boater or yachtsman

Most Latin American resort developments are relatively high-density. But Sugar Loaf Ocean Club and Spa is a large property of 75 acres, so you won’t feel hemmed in; it has the spaciousness that North Americans are accustomed to. The surrounding area is mostly pines, rolling hills, and pasture land, so the entire ambiance is one of peace and nature. I spent an hour at the site recently, and the only passerby on the road was a man on horseback–not a single vehicle went by.

Most properties on the Uruguayan coast are vacation homes that provide basic accommodation. They’re great for use as a weekend retreat by people in nearby Montevideo, but not really suited for those who come from another continent to retire or spend months in residence. Sugar Loaf Ocean Club and Spa has the comforts, amenities, and most importantly, the standards that you expect in a luxury home.

You can pick the luxury getaway that’s right for your taste and budget

Sugar Loaf Ocean Club and Spa is offering luxury villas, with models of two, three, and four bedrooms on lots of a quarter to half an acre, each with a dazzling ocean view. The two-bedroom model starts at $199,900, and goes up to $279,900 depending on the elevation and its corresponding ocean vista. The three-bedroom home starts at $269,900 and goes to $339,900 at its high end.

But at the pinnacle of Sugar Loaf Ocean Club and Spa you’ll find the ultimate offering. Looking out from the highest point of the property, you’ll find the precious half-acre lots, available with top-of-the-line, spacious, luxury villas. With four bedrooms and five baths, these offer every amenity you could want, from a Uruguayan barbeque pit to an infinity swimming pool that melts into the sea–not to mention the staggering 360-degree view of the ocean to the front and the hills to the rear. For those who want the very best, only two of these packages are available for $719,900.

If desired the administration can assist with the up keep of your home when you’re not in residence. Maintenance and gardening services are also available while you’re away.

Perhaps best of all, you’ll be in Uruguay

Uruguay is the rising star of South America, and has become a big hit with expats seeking a First World, solid infrastructure, an honest, European culture, and low levels of crime.

The government and the police are honest, and the settlers living here from around the world want to keep things that way.

From its pleasant weather with four seasons, to its low cost of living and enviable offshore banking policies, Uruguay has turned into one of the most popular destinations in South America today.

Now is the time to take advantage of Sugar Loaf’s pre-construction pricing while it lasts

“The country feels like a mix of culture-savvy Europe, with a dose of the pleasantly pastoral that’s some how reminiscent of New Zealand’s rural North Island- all bundled up with a unmistakably South
American laid-back
approach to the good life.”

Sugar Loaf Ocean Club and Spa has the amenities, quality, convenience, and ambiance that the North American property-owner wants, but seldom sees in Latin America. Here in Uruguay, you’ll find nothing else like it.

But the property market in Uruguay is on the upswing, with more investors and second-home owners coming each month. Prices have been rising over the past two years, and they show no signs of slowing down. So the current pre-construction pricing levels for this one-of-a-kind community will not last long either.

There’s no better time to buy than now, and no better place than Sugar Loaf Ocean Club and Spa.
