Ignorant Politicians: The cockroaches are scurrying

Baltimore (TFN) – Economists have their hands full. Some say it is the perfect storm of economic calamities: inflation, a falling dollar, a lack of liquidity, and cash-starved mega-corporations. The slightly more optimistic folks of the nation (or the misinformed) are saying we are entering a weak slowdown that we will be able to pull out of by June.
Unfortunately, the economically ignorant buffoons we elected to Washington think the troubled economy is all a game. Why wouldn’t they? The vast majority of them have amassed fortunes that no recession can tear apart. Meanwhile, the rest of us are left wondering what else our country is going to do to destroy our wealth-generating opportunities and our way of life.
On Capitol Hill, the economy is not considered the heartbeat that keeps this country alive. No, it is merely another powerful pawn in the political chess game.
Just look at what happened yesterday. All three major presidential candidates left the campaign trail and scurried back to Washington like cockroaches fleeing from a light. These so-called leaders have not seen the voting floor in months, yet they drool at the opportunity to raise their hand and cast a vote for a symbolic tax hike that call for more than $300 billion in increased taxes.
It all adds up… to nothing
Let me see if I have this right. The American dollar is worth about half as much as it used to be. It costs me $65 to fill my gas tank. The value of my house dropped by 30%. The cost of food is through the roof. My electricity bill has nearly doubled. And Washington wants to charge me MORE for the privilege of living here. The absolute last thing this economy needs is the notion of increased taxes.
From a political standpoint, it makes perfect sense. After all, who needs a big government when the economy is sound? But drop that trap door and we will all come begging for help.
John McCain was the only candidate to vote for keeping President Bush’s tax cuts. Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama gave the nod for increased taxes. Fortunately, Obama would not even vote for the $1.4 trillion tax increase necessary to fund the spending proposals made on the campaign trail.
Thankfully our founding fathers designed this country with a fantastic set of checks and balances. Because of their foresight, most outrageous campaign promises and dangerous tax hikes will never see the oval office. Even so, we are beginning to see the political backhandedness of the people we pay to represent us.
No matter what the bumper stickers say, they do not care if we can afford to take little Jimmy and Katie to Disney World. All they want is our vote… and more of our money, of course.
The political campaigns are calling for change. I agree! How about leaving some change in my bank account.
