Blogger’s note: Our friend Ann Sosnowski from the Taipan Publishing Group and our very own Krista Das are currently researching the latest technological advances at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. They’ll be sending us videos of their trip soon. In the meantime, we thought you’d enjoy an update straight from Ann.

Baltimore and Las Vegas – (TFN): The Consumer Electronics Show here in Las Vegas is truly a beast of its own.

With more than 2,700 exhibitors and 140,000 attendees, it’s the largest consumer electronics show in the world covering 1.7 million net square feet.

The exhibition space is truly daunting.

In fact, it’s testament to how much you have to navigate yourself around the space that when you show up at the Las Vegas CES, you have to get your hands on five maps: four fold-out maps like my dad used to navigate through whole states during summer vacations, except these give you the exhibitors to visit in the North Hall, the Central Hall, the South 1 and 2 halls and the South 3 and 4 halls. In addition, you get a fifth map outlining everything available in the Sands Expo and Convention Center.

There’s really no way to see everything here, which is a big letdown! But we’re trying the best we can to view the most blockbuster products.

Technology of the Future Today

We have a big day ahead of us today. The highlight for me of course will be visiting the NextGen Home Experience. We have clearance to spend half an hour touring this digital home project presented by Lifeware Digital Entertainment and Automation.

We’ll be able to tour (complete with video for all of you!) a fully-connected digital home that showcases how easy it is to connect everything in your home via sensors and wireless technology: everything from turning your television on and off with your cell phone, or from your car to controlling your home climate with one simple touch screen.

I’m extremely excited for this chance. And I can’t wait for you to see the video!

Additionally, we’ll be attending the CNET Best of CES Awards Winners Announcements at 2 p.m. Some of the finalists include the new Garmin Ltd. (GRMN:NASDAQ) portable navigation system with voice control, the new Lenovo (LNVGY.OTC) IdeaPad laptops, and the depth-sensing 3D ZCam that I was able to play with yesterday and told you about!

It should be a really fun day!

And I received many emails from you asking me to take a look at some companies you’re interested in, so I’ll be doing that as well over the course of the next day and a half.

I’ll be visiting the Zigbee group, a leader in future sensor technology. I’m stopping by to see Zink, a maker of inkless printing. I’ll be visiting Sigma Design (SIGM:NASDAQ), Microvision Inc. (MVIS:NASDAQ), Sony Corp. (SNE:NYSE), Panasonic, Intel Corp. (INTC:NASDAQ), Microsoft Inc. (MSFT:NASDAQ) and a plethora of countless other companies that you’ve brought to my attention, both big and small.
