The Week’s Financial News: Are Japanese stocks a buy? Why the Penthouse IPO now looks like a prom queen… and profiting from the Beijing Olympics.

Baltimore — (TFN): American Airlines (AMR) stranded a quarter million passengers (and counting) at the nation’s airports. The markets continued on their unimpressive sideways up-and-down-again two step. And Hillary Clinton added to her artful dodging of sniper’s bullets by Matrix-like evading questions regarding the lacy inconsistencies between what her campaigners say and what they make money on.
Our Team at TodaysFinancialNews.com had our collective finger on the pulse of the market:
*** Smart Investing’s Krista Das had invited currency expert Jack Crooks to turn “The Dollar Panic” into a profit opportunity: After all, as the US dollar continued to weaken, everyone from the professional economist to the average consumer is wondering what exactly are going to be the repercussions both domestically and internationally. Jack tells us what lies ahead for the U.S. economy, oil, and China’s growth.
*** This weekend, Smart Trading Action Alert’s research director Laura Cadden tapped MoneyMorning’s Martin Hutchinson for his expert opinion on the situation on the Japanese Nikkei stock index. Japanese stocks have been crushed in the recent market downturn. Is it time for investors to start looking for bargains? Martin Hutchinson gives his take on where the market is heading.
*** As the Olympic torch scorched its tortuous way through Western capitals, Chinese claqueurs and pro-Tibet protesters, Laura Cadden unveiled a timely Hot Stock Pick of the Week: “Beijing Olympics: This stock to get the gold”. “The leading China online travel service is set for global expansion. With a 33% profit margin, this stock is an excellent prospect – and a jump of 18% in share price is possible before the 2008 Beijing Olympics.” Find out more!
*** Our long-time associate Kathy Peddicord, formerly of International Living and now of LiveAndInvestOverseas.com provided us not with one or two or three… but with “16 good reasons to select an offshore retirement destination”. I myself looked at the wasteland that is the upcoming IPO line-up… and, unable to resist the juvenile double-entendres, am now convinced that the planned Penthouse AdultFriendFinder.com IPO actually may turn out the be better than I originally thought.
*** Last not least, I couldn’t help to poke fun at Hillary’s NAFTA troubles: “Following the Democrat motto of ‘Do as I say, not as I do,’ the Clinton campaign has become a living kamasutra of moral contortionists — a migrant carnival of double-jointed confidence artistes whose spectacular limberness would normally earn someone a place in Ripley’s Believe it or not!” It earned me stern looks from the Democrats in the office.
I can live with that!
What’s on the slab for next week? Well, Ms. Cadden is interviewing Nick Hodge of Angel Publications… while Krista Das has invited volatility specialist Ian Cooper for their respective shows.
