Think London, Buy China: London Olympics get Beijing treatment
Posted August 29, 2008
Maybe I’m a bit too cynical, but when London says it’s recruiting Chinese vendors to support the 2012 Olympic games (the next Summer Olympics is going to be in London, in case you missed that memo), I tend to think the reasoning behind the decision has more to do with the favorable exchange rate than it does with the fabulous job they just did on the Beijing Olympics.
The thought process in London’s decision would be something like: "Hey, they pulled it off, and nothing exploded! Let’s work with them and pay one-twelfth what we would if we hired a British company to do the same thing."
And perhaps London would like to avoid saying things like, "We want to learn from what Beijing has done." The British city may not want to emulate the first Olympic games that included press censorship, the denial of visas to former Olympic competitors and spying on every hotel guest in the city.

Think London, a investment agency for the city, is ready to kick off a road show in 11 cities across China, to encourage Chinese enterprises to bid for business opportunities in the run-up to the London Olympics, a senior official from the company said. Read on to learn more.
