Baltimore, MD — TFN: Earlier this week, in our daily e-letter TFN eNews, reader Scott J. wrote in:

“How about diggin’ up a few good copper and timber penny companies? Or is this too soon to get into things that may reign after the UN Climate Change Conference in December? Been looking, but it’s tough to determine the good ones. Many choices seem to have to based purely on the charts. Help!”

We did what modern Americans do best: We passed the buck to our readers.

What are the best American copper mining and timber penny stocks you can think of?

TFN readers responded to our call for suggestions:

As to the best copper stock, TFN eNews reader and HSC member Chris W. suggests: “Katanga Mining Ltd. (TSE:KAT) operates a major mine complex in the Democratic Republic of Congo producing refined copper and cobalt. The company has the potential to become Africa’s largest copper producer and the world’s largest cobalt producer. Katanga is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol KAT.”

Rob B. adds: “I’d have to say that my two favorites that I have made good money on over the past year are Coeur d’Alene Mines Corporation (NYSE:CDE) and Southern Copper Corporation (NYSE:PCU).”

Dale H. writes in: “Sirs, The hottest timber stock in our country right now is Boise Inc. (NYSE:BZ). I bought some on July 15 at $2.14 and yesterday it closed at $3.40. That is a 59% gain in one month. I only got in the market on Oct 28 just before the elections, always a good thing. I put $10,000.00 in and as of close today it has grown to $19,479.00 .. That is a gain of $9479.00 which is an increase of 95 % gain 9 1/2 months. I doubt that is any record, but it ain’t bad for an old guy retired to a historic Fort Clark in Southwest Texas!”

Alright. None of them are “penny stocks” proper. Let us know at support [at] todaysfinancialnews [dot] com.
