Blogger’s note: The first thing you think of when considering fuel and food prices (sidestepping the whole corn ethanol discussion) is probably the rising cost of powering the trucks that move food from the fields to your table. One thing you probably don’t ponder is the rising cost of the fuel it takes to plow and irrigate those fields in the first place. Growing food takes a lot of energy, and I don’t mean the energy that transfers from the sun into the plants… or maybe I do. In a recent article, Jim Nelson discussed the rising costs of irrigating the fields that feed us and told his Penny Sleuth readers about a public company helping farmers afford their water supply.
